A pair of antique Japanese paper mache kabuki masks. These masks portray a demon-like character from Japanese folklore, possibly Datsue-ba, an old woman who presides at the edge of the underworld and is tasked with physically punishing the evil and with helping children cross the river into the underworld. These red and orange paper mache masks feature thin silk strands of hair and cut holes for the eyes and mouth. Unmarked.
Condition: Good. Some minor cracks and wear as pictured.
